HQs re-imagined by DIT Interior Design Students
Continuing their collaboration with DIT’s Interior Design degree students, Contract Flooring Supplies Ltd. sponsored the third year’s commercial design project for the second year. This year the students were tasked with designing the headquarters of a retail company of their choice. Each student was asked to specify floor finishes from the Contract Flooring Supplies brand portfolio and present their project to Paul Finnegan, himself a DIT Interior Design graduate, Associate at Mola Architecture and Sarah Wagstaff of Contract Flooring Supplies.
Huguenot House on Dublin’s St. Stephen’s Green was the location for their imagined company headquarters and Universal Design principles governed the student’s design choices. The project standard across the third year class was excellent and showed brilliant creativity, practicality and professionalism.
The winner, Adrianna Grierosu, selected fashion giants H&M as her imagined clients. She said, “H&M is a Swedish multinational retail-clothing company known for its fast-fashion clothing for men, women, teenagers and children. Their vision is to continue expanding, be more environmentally friendly, create a good workplace for employees and offer great clothes at affordable prices – I wanted to reflect this vision into their workplace environment”.
Adrianna managed to capture this vision in her project presentation and impressed the judges with her excellent choices of furniture, floor finishes and understanding of Universal Design.
DIT’s Interior Design course coordinator, Neville Knott said, “All the students really pushed themselves with this project which I was delighted to see. It will be really interesting to see how these students progress into 4th year and it’s an exciting time for them to be heading out into the world of architecture and design”.
