Wicanders Hydrocork Flooring
Looking for a floor covering that’s sustainable, waterproof and looks great? Discover Hydrocork from Wicanders! In this post, you will get to know where to use cork flooring and why it is the perfect alternative to carpeting.
Cork is a plant material that’s harvested from the bark of the Cork Oak. It’s extremely light, highly insulating and 100% natural and biodegradable. The cork is first extracted from the tree between May and July when the tree is 20 to 25 years old. From then on, it is extracted once every nine years.
Teams of experienced, qualified artisans carefully remove the bark from each tree using axes after which they mark its age on the trunk to keep track of the next cutting, while leaving the tree intact. Cork is found throughout the Mediterranean with Portugal accounting for more than 50% of global production.
